Community Outreach

Congregation B’nai Israel has a deep commitment to involvement in our community-at-large. Throughout our history, our congregants have given personal gifts of time, talent, and treasure that have made an important impact in Central Arkansas. As a congregation, together we work to repair the world around us through a variety of special projects, and partnerships with local agencies. Congregation B’nai Israel makes a big difference in our small part of the world and we encourage you to take a look at the volunteer opportunities listed below and join us in our work. Please email our Community Outreach Committee Chairperson, Jill Bauman for more information.

Our House
http://www.ourhouseshelter.org

On the fourth Wednesday of every month, we cook and serve a meal for 100 residents (men, women and children) at Our House Shelter for the Working Homeless. Our House was founded by the interfaith community of Little Rock over two decades ago. If you would like to help with sponsoring one or more of these meals, make your donation to the Pfeifer Community Outreach Fund and write Our House in the memo section of your check. Volunteers are always needed to assist with the shopping, cooking, set-up, and the serving of the meals. Please contact Jill Bauman if you would like to help!

Backpacks for Kids

Each year before school starts, dedicated congregants sponsor backpacks and supplies for students who attend Little Rock Public Schools and cannot afford the items on their back to school list. This year we filled 200  backpacks and delivered them to schools where a majority of students come from homes below the poverty level. You can help – for just $36/backpack and you may sponsor as many as you like!

Thanksgiving Basket Project

Our congregation prepares Thanksgiving baskets each year for local families in need. Each basket contains all the fixin’s for a family Thanksgiving meal and a $15 Kroger gift card to purchase a turkey. You can help – for just $36/basket and you may sponsor as many as you like!

Interfaith: Love thy neighbor: Be Still Together

    September 11, 2025  6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Love Thy Neighbor is an annual interfaith service that brings central Arkansas faith communities together for an evening of music, shared wisdom, and reflection. This year’s theme “Be Still Together” invites participants to explore moments of stillness and quiet reflection with one another as a way of strengthening and building community.

Speakers from various religious backgrounds will share stories, poems, and prayers from their faith traditions, and local ensembles and musicians will invite participants into times of quiet reflection and collective harmony.

The Interfaith Food Festival will follow the service in the parish hall at Saint Mark’s with delicious vegetarian dishes prepared by local caterers and faith communities.
